Cowboys, Dolphins Injury Report

Starting Quarterback for Dallas, Dak Prescott, Suffers Thumb Injury

During the fourth quarter of the Dallas Cowboys' preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, starting quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a thumb injury that required surgery. The injury occurred when Prescott attempted to tackle Dolphins safety Clayton Fejedelem after an interception. Prescott immediately left the game and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. The Cowboys have announced that Prescott will miss the remainder of the preseason and is expected to be out for several weeks during the regular season. The team has not yet released a specific timetable for Prescott's return.

Backup Quarterback Cooper Rush Expected to Start in Prescott's Absence

With Prescott out, backup quarterback Cooper Rush is expected to take over as the starter. Rush has been with the Cowboys since 2021 and has started one game in his career. He completed 24 of 40 passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns in that game. The Cowboys are confident in Rush's ability to lead the team in Prescott's absence.

The Dolphins also suffered some injuries, including a concussion to starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason.
