Kiprusoff's No. 34 Retired by Calgary Flames
Flames Legend Honored Among Franchise Greats
Calgary, Alberta -
Miikka Kiprusoff, one of the most beloved players in Calgary Flames history, had his No. 34 jersey retired by the team during a ceremony at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday. Kiprusoff, 47, becomes the fourth Flames player to have his number retired, joining forwards Lanny McDonald (9), Al MacInnis (2), and Jarome Iginla (12). The Finnish goaltender played 11 seasons with Calgary, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004. "It's an incredible honor to have my number retired by the Flames," said Kiprusoff. "This organization and this city have always held a special place in my heart, and to be recognized in this way is truly humbling." Kiprusoff retired in 2013 after 13 seasons in the NHL. He finished his career with a record of 306-253-67, a 2.52 goals-against average, and a .910 save percentage. He was a four-time Vezina Trophy finalist and won the award in 2006. "Miikka was one of the best goaltenders in the world during his time with the Flames," said Flames general manager Brad Treliving. "He was a huge part of our success, and we're proud to have his number hanging in the rafters alongside the other greats in our franchise history."
